Diabetic retinopathy

If you have diabetes, you’re more than 70% likely to experience a serious eye problem called diabetic retinopathy.

Diabetes is one of the leading causes of blindness. Diabetes weakens the focusing ability of your eye and more seriously can damage the blood vessels in the retina.

It’s important to catch this early before it causes irreversible problems. Diabetic retinopathy can be prevented with early intervention. We can catch it early using OCT or digital imaging tests.

The longer you’ve had diabetes, the greater your risk of retinopathy. Your risk also increases if your blood glucose levels are not well controlled over time.

If you have diabetes, you need to get an eye test every year. If you have retinopathy, you’d need even more regular tests to manage and monitor it.

If we detect diabetic retinopathy during our comprehensive eye test, we will refer you to a specialist for treatment.
