This is the easy, safe alternative to surgery, or wearing glasses and contact lenses.
Orthokeratology (Ortho K) fixes short-sightedness while you sleep. It’s like orthodontic braces for your teeth, but for your eyes.
You might have also seen it called Corneal Refractive Therapy (CRT) or Overnight Vision Correction.
Ortho K is a revolutionary nonsurgical procedure that eliminates the need for glasses or daytime contact lenses for people with myopia (short sightedness). And unlike eye surgery, it’s non-invasive and you can reverse it if you want to.
It involves gently reshaping the cornea at the front of your eye while you sleep, by using customised hard contact lenses.
You wear the contacts overnight, and remove them in the morning. And best of all – when you get up, you won’t need to wear glasses or contacts for the rest of the day.
It’s ideal for people who love sports, swimming or surfing, or really anyone who doesn’t want to wear glasses or contacts.
How we do it
We take care of the whole process for you, from mapping your eye shape to organising and fitting your contact lenses.
Our Optometrist starts with an examination of your retina and the health of the outside of your eye. Then he uses an instrument called a Topographer to map the shape of your cornea. This map is then used to design your customised lenses, also called corneal moulds.
Ortho K initial tests take around 30 minutes and the follow up assessment is approximately 20 minutes.
Dry eyes can feel like sand paper – gritty, irritable and miserable.
It’s caused by an imbalance of tears on your eyes’ surface which makes your eyes dry out.
We can help relieve the symptoms of dry eyes with a specialised treatment in the practice using Blephasteam goggles. These goggles use heat and moisture to warm the oil in our eyelids to the appropriate temperature needed to liquefy and unblock glands.
We recommend one to three sessions to maintain eye comfort.
The Dry Eye Treatment takes 15 to 20 minutes.
We have strong relationships with eye specialists throughout Sydney and the Eastern Suburbs.
If we find that you require specialised eye treatments, we will arrange an appointment for you with an eye specialist suited to your eye condition. We will still monitor your eye health here at our practice, so you get 360 degree care.
